41. A Little Learning... (S4Ep3)

Rafe Simmons wants to learn to read and write so he can
read his mother's diary. He quits Shiloh to move to
Medicine Bow to learn from Martha Perry. The Virginian,
Trampas, and Ryker are all in love with Martha, not knowing
she is already married to a man named Bret Kramer, who has
just been released from prison. Rafe is caught in a tangle
with town bullies and Martha's ex-con husband.

42. Jacob Was A Plain Man (S5Ep5)

(Flashback) Stacey's Story: Jake is a strong man who is deaf and
mute. Not knowing his own strength, he accidentally kills a man
who is bothering him at a bar. He runs because the town thinks he
did it deliberately. He runs into Stacey, and helps him get a cow
out of a river. Jake comes to Shiloh, and Stacey gets The Virginian
to give him a job. He is very useful around the ranch because of
his strength. He learns to read and write. Two cowhands, Curley
and Packer, are rustling cattle, and Jake finds out. At first, they
dismiss Jake because he can't communicate, but after finding out that
he is teaching himself, they turn him over to his town's bounty hunter.

43. Rich Man, Poor Man (S8Ep23)

Harve Yost, a farmer living along with his son, Whit, and daughter,
Ellie, Harve has come to Shiloh to pick up a bee swarm, and Whit
needs to borrow a horse. Jim Horn takes him out to the swarm where
Harve confronts a dying outlaw who takes a shot at Harve. He finds
the man's saddlebags with over $58,000 in them. Harve receives a
$10,280 reward for the recovery of the stolen money and the outlaw.
After throwing a lavish champagne party, he takes The Virginian's
advice to buy a ranch as an investment. He buys the second biggest
ranch in the valley next to Shiloh, but it is run down needing a
lot of work. Harve has his own views on how to grow, by greedily
spending all his money until he goes broke.

44. The Handy Man (S6E24)

A drifter, Jim, comes to the aid of Trampas when Ward leaves him
knocked out on a runaway wagon. One of the Bowden hands recognizes
him as the gunfighter Ned Mullens from Virginia City leading the
Bowdens to believe Shiloh has upped the ante in the conflict. Since
Jim needs a job, Trampas convinces The Virginian to hire him to do
chores, even though he may be Mullens as it will help keep the
Bowdens quiet until the land commissioner makes a decision about
the land in ten days. As the Shiloh handyman, Jim continues to come
to the aid of Trampas including backing him up with an empty shotgun
when Trampas goes to the Bowden ranch to finish the fight with Ward.

45. Train Of Darkness (S8Ep18)

Clay, Holly, Jim, and Elizabeth board a train from Cheyenne to
Medicine Bow. During the trip they get to know all the passengers
only to learn one is hiding their past that causes the train to be
stopped. Luke Dormer and his family are chasing the train wanting
to hang Jed Haines, aka Judge Harker, a gun for hire, for killing a
family member. Harker hired out to the Wyoming ranchers to catch
and kill cattle rustlers. Rumors say he killed dozens, but he says
he only killed seven men who were rustling cattle.

46. Jenny (S9Ep3)

The Virginian helps a woman being attacked in her hotel room,
and recognizes that she is his old girlfriend, Jenny. They are
later on a stage coach, being chased by some men. The stage
coach loses its wheel, leaving them stranded in the dessert.
The Virginian soon finds out Jenny is connected to the men
chasing them, because she keeps lying to him about her
husband.

47. Gun Quest (S9Ep6)

The Virginian finds himself in a frame-up in a small town.
A young man claims he saw The Virginian kill his father,
and that his real name is Boss Cooper. At an unfair trial,
drunken Judge Hobbs refuses to listen The Virginian's
statement that he is not the murderer. He is about to be
hanged when he cleverly wraps his handcuffs around the judge's
neck and demands they release him. He then escapes the town.
The Virginian sets out to find the real Boss Cooper. He asks
the dead man's wife who sends him to a town where a saloon
girl knows Cooper, as the dead man's sons are following him.

48. Hannah (S9Ep13)

On a train, Trampas helps a 13-year-old girl named Hannah, whose
father had just had a heart-attack. He gets her father to a doctor and
helps Hannah find her mother. Her mother had left her father for Roy
Harkness, a gambler; Hannah and her father were searching for her
based on some letters. Trampas and the girl find out that her mother has
changed her name and is going with Roy to Loma. Roy has manipulated
Hannah's mother into robbing a bank with him. Hannah, anxious to see
her mother, asks one of Roy's men, Lafe, to take her to her. Trampas
then has a lot of trouble on his hands, especially when Hannah finds
out her mother is at the bank robbers' hideout.

49. The Animal (S09Ep16)

Tate comes upon a young indian that swings an axe at him,
in fear. The indian is being hunted down for murder, by the
murdered man's brother, Gustaveson. Tate saves the indian
and brings him into the town for a fair trial, believing he is
innocent. The indian is deaf and mute, making it impossible
for him to defend himself in court. Tate and Karen, Gustaveson's
niece, then teach the indian to communicate. They finally find
out, through the indian, that an old man was a witness to the
fight. As Gustaveson plans to kill the indian before the trial,
Tate sets out to find the old man to discover what really
happened.

50. The Town Killer (S9Ep22)

Due to a broken foot, Belden cannot accompany The Virginian on his
business trip to Billings, Montana. The Virginian arrives at a place
where an ex-outlaw, Ben Hunter, gets paid large sums of money
by the town in exchange for their protection. The Virginian later
kills one of Hunter's men in self-defense, causing Hunter to want to
kill him. Hunter gives the cowardly townspeople an increased monthly
payment if they turn The Virginian over to him. Only the store owner's
daughter, Susan, cares about The Virginian's safety. The Virginian
booby traps the town to stop Hunter and his men, when they return.
